Should governments measure well-being?

I went to a great conference yesterday organized by the Franco-British Council, on the French and British governments' new initiatives to measure well-being, in an attempt to try and broaden policy-makers' focus beyond GDP. Here is a short video of highlights of the conference.

Here is a brief interview with Alain De Botton from the conference, which also discusses whether philosophy should make us feel more fulfilled;

And here's footage of David 'Two Brains' Willetts, the British minister on universities and science, talking about the Coalition government's new initiative. Note his reference to Aristotle at the end - another Neo-Aristotelian in British politics!
